ppt 9 Interventional Radiology Flashcards
What are some image guided interventions?
- Drainage
- Biopsy
- Vascular access
- Enteral access
- Vascular interventions
Diagnostic
Angioplasty / stent for occlusive disease
Embolization
Treatment of Aneurysmal disease
What could you use image guided drainage for?
Fluid (pleural effusion, hemothorax, emphyma)
Abscess (deep tissue access)
What is the least and most invasive form of biopsy?
Least - Needle aspiration
Most - excisional
What are the indications for enteral access?
Feeding access
Decompression
Gastric access
Why should you use image guided techniques for vascular access (ex: central access) instead of the “old school” method?
Considered more safe and more accurate
*Can also use smaller tubes sometimes because better visualization and control
What are the CT and Angio useful for?
bleeding, deep complicated abdominal abscess
What is the CT specifically useful for visualizing?
Solid Organs
What is the US useful for?
Fluid and gallstones
What is always used before surgery is considered for GI hemorrhage and uterine fibroids?
Embolization
What else is embolization useful for (other than bleeding)?
Injecting chemicals
Ex: Intra-arterial chemotherapy for liver tumors
What are two types of enteral access?
- Gastrostomy
2. PEG (percutaneous enteral access)
