PPT 4 Flashcards
Who invented the facebow?
Dr. George B. Snow (A DENTIST!!)
What is the objective of the face-bow?
To record the position of MAXILLARY occlusal PLANE ONLY!!
Does the face-bow help to determine or record CO or CR?
No! Face bow ONLY determines MAXILLARY occlusal PLANE!
What registration should be taken from the bottom side of the bite fork?
NONE!
What is a face-bow?
A caliper-like instrument used to record the spatial relationship of the maxillary arch to some anatomical reference point or points and then transfer the relationship to an articulator
How does the face-bow orient the dental cast?
Orients it in a similar relationship to the opening axis of the articulator
What are the customary anatomic references for the facebow?
- Mandibular condyles
- Transverse horizontal axis
- One other selected anterior point
What is the “fixed triad”
- Right condylar axis
- Left condylar axis
- Maxillary occlusal plane imprint
Why must you use fox plane before facebow?
To locate the maxillary occlusal plane
Which midline are you concerned about determining with the fox plane and occlusal rim?
Maxillary midline only
What 3 things must you do prior to applying the face bow transfer?
- facial contouring the maxillary rim only
- marking the midline
- aligning the fox plane
What are the 6 purposes of the face-bow transfer?
- Initial mounting of occlusal wax rim
- Lab remounting of finished denture
- Clinical remounting of finished denture
- Clinical mounting of initial preliminary dentulous treatment casts
- Clinical mounting of final prosthetic dentulous impressions
- Clinical mounting of finished prosthesis
What are the 5 steps for locating the maxillary edentulous occlusal plane on the articulator?
- Record the maxillary occlusal plane
- Use the maxillary occlusion wax rims
- First use the fox plane
- Use the face-bow transfer
- Mount the casts on the articulator
Why do we not take a bite registration on the bottom of the bite-fork of the face-bow transfer?
Because the thickness of the metal would throw things off.
Which bite-fork should we use if not planning to melt the occlusal rim to the fork?
The HOLED DENTULOUS bite-fork
