Q

What’s Intracoronal restorations requirements?

A
  1. Relies on the strength of the remaining tooth structure
  2. Greater tooth bulk is needed
  3. Contraindicated in weakened tooth

Q

What’s extracoronal restorations requirement ?

A

Extracoronal restorations
1. Encircles all or part of the remaining tooth structure
2. Can strengthen and protect weakened tooth
3. Considerable amount of tooth structure must be removed
4. The margins must be near the free gingiva

Q

What’s cantilever disadvantages ?

A
  1. A cantilever induces lateral forces - leading to tipping, rotation, or drifting of the abutment
  2. When multiple missing teeth are replaced, cantilever FDPs have considerable application
  3. The harmful tipping forces are resisted by multiple abutment teeth - movement of the abutments is unlikely

Q

How do we assess abutment tooth ?

A
  1. Radiographs are made
  2. Pulpal health is assessed by evaluating the response to thermal and electrical stimulation
  3. Existing restorations and residual caries are removed
  4. Teeth in which pulpal health is doubtful should be endodontically treated before the initiation of fixed prosthodontics

Q

What’s unrestored abutment benefits ?

A

1 An unrestored, caries-free tooth is an ideal abutment
2. Can be prepared conservatively for a strong retentive restoration with optimum esthetics
3. The margin of the retainer can be placed without modifications
4. An unrestored tooth can be safely prepared without damaging the pulp

Q

Medially tilted molar main PROPLEM ?

A

Positional relationship no longer allows for parallel paths of insertion without interference from the adjacent teeth

Q

How long span affect our treatment ?

A

Excessive flexing under occlusal loads may cause failure of a long-span FDP
It can lead to:

Fracture of a porcelain veneer
Breakage of a connector
Loosening of a retainer
Unfavorable soft tissue response

Q

Span length effect explained by which low ?

A

Law of beam
If a span of a single pontic is deflected a certain amount, a span of two similar pontics will move 8 times as much, and three will move 27 times as much.

Q

Which consideration should we take in long span ?

A

All FDPs flex slightly when subjected to a load
The longer the span, the greater the flexing

Pontics and connectors should be made as bulky as possible
The prosthesis should be made of a material that has high strength and rigidity and thick ( due to bending )
