PPD/PPS/PASGT Flashcards
What are the traingle of fire?
Oxygen, Heat, and Fuel. A fire naturally occurs when these elements are present
What is sterling engine?
Stirling engines operate by cyclically compressing and expanding a working gas (like
air or helium) in a sealed chamber.
What are Steam Engines
They burn fuel (like coal, oil, or wood) to heat water in a boiler, creating steam. The
steam is then used to drive a piston or turbine.
What are dynamic pumps?
an instrument that directly transforms kinetic energy into mechanical energy to move fluids
What is a plate type heat exchanger?
uses thin, corrugated metal plates to transfer heat between two fluids. Alternating (Hot and Cold fluids)
For: Heating, refrigeration, and cooling
What is a tube type heat exchanger?
The hotter fluid passes through the tubes, and the cooler fluid flows around the tube
What is SCADA?
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. SCADA is a real-time monitoring and control system used to
supervise and control shipboard processes
What is HMI?
Human Machine Interface. Presents real-time
data, alarms, and system statuses.
What is Otto cycle?
Two adiabatic processes and two isochoric (constant volume) processes. Commonly used to model Gasoline Engines
What is Diesel cycle?
Two adiabatic processes and two isobaric (constant pressure) processes.
How does marine air compressor work?
A marine compressor compresses air for engine starting, tools, and control systems by drawing in air, compressing it, cooling it, and storing it for distribution.
