What is section 17 PACE 1984?
ESCAPES-
E- Executing warrant
S- Saving life or limb
C- Child absent from care
A- Arrest for indictable offence
P- Perusing person unlawfully at large
E- Escaped from detention centre
S- Specified other offences (“S4 put in the door” Road traffic & public order).
What is section 18 (1) PACE 1984?
COURT-
C- Constable may enter & search premises.
O- Occupied or controlled by a person who is
U- Under arrest for an Indictable offence if he has
R- Reasonable grounds for suspecting that there is on the premeses evidence relating to
T- That offence or some other Indictabe offence which is connected with or similar to that offence.
What is section 18 (5) PACE 1984?
Power to enter and search WITHOUT Inspectors authority.
Why might S.18 (5) be in place- give an example
Know by the time you get Inspectors approval, evidence from the premises could be gone.
What is section 32 PACE 1984?
Constable can enter and search for evidence relating to offence to which person has been arrested.
Premises in which person was arrested
OR any premises he was in immediately before his arrest
What is section 19 PACE 1984?
Pc Lawfully on premises
Believes it is necessary to seize items to prevent it being:
- Damaged
- Concealed
- Lost
- Altered
- Destroyed
Power only used whilst inside a premises!!!

- Evidence at trial
- Forensic examinations
