A mass form of communication
Spin doctor
Someone who tries to get certain stories into the public eye and make bad news sound better. These are usually work for a political party
Censorship
Limiting the information given to the general public
Libel/slander
Writing/saying incorrect or untrue things about people
Civil law
This covers disputes between individuals or groups
Criminal law
This deals with more serious offences which are between the crown prosecution service and the offender
Sue
To make a claim against someone or something
Judiciary
All the judges in the country
Barrister
A lawyer who represents their clients in court
Solicitor
A lawyer who gives legal advice and researched the case
Representative democracy
A type of democracy where citizens have the right to choose someone to represent them as an MP
Manifesto
A published statement of the aims of a political party
Political party
An organised group if people with common aims who out candidates up for elections
Cabinet
The main decision making group of the council/ government
Mayor
A member of the council who is selected to be its representative
Ombudsman
A person who investigates complaints against the government or a public organisation
Canvassing
When people try to persuade others to vote for their party
Constituency
The area represented by an MP
Electorate
All people in a country who are registered to vote
