What is Covid-19?
Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness caused by a virus that can spread from person to person.
The virus that causes COVID-19 is a new coronavirus that has spread throughout the world.
COVID-19 symptoms can range from mild (or no symptoms) to severe illness.
What are the symptoms of Covid-19?
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fever
- Chills
- Repeated shaking with chills
- Muscle Pain
- Headache
- Sore throat
- New loss of taste and smell
How COVID-19 is spread?
- By coming in close contact with a person who has COVID-19 (about 6 feet)
- Contact with respiratory droplets ie; cough, sneeze or talking from and infected person
- Touching a surface, or object that has the virus on it. and then touching your mouth nose and eyes.
- You can spread it even if you are not showing symptoms
How may Covid-19 affect the workplace?
- Increased Absenteeism
- Change in patterns of commerce
- Interrupted supply/delivery
When asked about the cleaning supplies we use how should we respond
Everything is based on the guidelines from the EPA and CDC as well as being Hospital-Grade.
What are the OSHA recommended steps to protect yourself?
- Frequently wash your hands thoroughly by using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
- Avoid touching your mouth, nose and eyes before washing your hands.
- Practice respiratory wellness by sneezing or coughing into elbow
- Avoid close contact with anyone that could have symptoms
- Keep a social distance (min of 6 ft).
- Stay home if you are feeling ill
What are the CDC guidelines for washing hands?
Follow these five steps every time:
1.Wetyour hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
- Latheryour hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
- Scrubyour hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
- Rinseyour hands well under clean, running water.
- Dryyour hands using a clean towel or air dry them
What does the start of every employees shift look like?
- Employees will be screened privately by Manager on duty using a touchless forehead thermometer
- They employee will be asked 5 questions about contact to covid-19 and if they are experiencing symptoms
- Manager records this information in employees private medical record
What scenario would cause and employee to be sent home?
-If they register a fever at or above 100.4 degrees
OR
-Experiencing coughing or shortness of breath
If an employee is sent home, when can they return to work?
- He or she has had no fever for at least three (3) days without taking medication to reduce fever during that time; AND
- Any respiratory symptoms (cough and shortness of breath) have improved for at least three (3) days; AND
- At least seven (7) days have passed since the symptoms began.
* An employee may return to work earlier if a doctor confirms the cause of an employee’s fever or other symptoms is not COVID-19 and releases the employee to return to work in writing.
Can we ask an employee to stay home or leave work if they exhibit symptoms of the COVID-19 coronavirus or the flu?
- Yes, you are permitted to ask them to seek medical attention and get tested for COVID-19.
- The CDC states that employees who exhibit symptoms of influenza-like illness at work during a pandemic should leave the workplace.
- The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)confirmed that advising workers to go homeis permissible and not considered disability-related if the symptoms present are akin to the COVID-19 coronavirus or the flu.
