Power of positive dog trainig Flashcards
1
Reward positive actions
2
Ignore dog after negative action until he does something good (like sit)
3
She alredy knows how to do everythingthat i am going to tech her, she just doesn’t understand cues yet
4
One cue one action
e.g. down should only mean lie down and not get down from the sofa, itherwise dog will confuse the two
5
We are more intelligent species, don’t punish dog for being on the sofa cause she only learn not to be on the sofa in our presence rather make it imposible or undesirable for her to be on the sofa (great dog bed, place cartons or something on the sofa)
6
I can teach dog to like hugs (which appear scary to them) by giving her treats after each hug
7
When i drop food in the itchen i should move to occupy the space of dropped food and not yell “STAY!1!!”
8
Body bloking also works with keeping dogs off laps, sofas, beds etc
9
Clicker and treats are most needed training tools. May be verbal
10
Reward marker should always be followed by a reward so dog can associate marker with reward
11
Clicker timing is essenital. The faster the better
12
Theater is used for making dog time out
13
head halter can be applied to teach dog not to pull while on leash
14
Capturing is often fastest way to teach new behavior. Simply name and reward behaviour when it happens naturally
15
Shaping - breaking down complex behaviours into manageable pieces
16
Imitation - works poorly with humans but great when dogs are imitating other dogs
17
Luring - guiding beheviour using food (e.g. to teach DOWN position).
18
Lures hsould be minimzed ASAP
19
Modeling - physcally helping dog achieve desired ourcome. Least effective way
20
Undesired behavouirs should be (perfectly) managed to prevent their occurance
21
Negative punishment: dogs behaviuor makes good things go way rather than punishing him with yeling and physical trauma
22
Positive Punishemnt (not the better kind) is apploing negative feedback to the dog - yelling, beating, making loud noses etc
23
Properly applied positive punshemnt should take longer than one to two repetitions
27
Six steps of teaching a new behaviour:
- Get the behaviour to occur (using capturing, shaping, luring or modelling)
- Mark the behaviour
- Reward the behaviour
- Repeat the behaviour until it has about 80% success rate
- Add a verbal cue before dog doeas the behaviour to create a link !!!
- Use verbal cue to elicit behaviour
