Power and Efficiency(5.4) Flashcards
What is power?
Power is the rate of work done/energy transferred
What is the equation for power?
Power = Work done / time
How do you calculate the rate of work done against gravity?
~The rate of work done against gravity is essentially a power equation where you have substituted work done with the equation for gravitational potential energy~
Power = (mass(Kg) x gravitational field strength(NKg^-1) x height(m)) / time(s)
How do you calculate the power of an object moving at a constant velocity?
Power = Work done / time
~substitute the equation for work done in the power equation~
Power = (Force x distance moved) / time
~The speed of an object is (x / t)~
Power = Force x velocity
What is efficiency?
Efficiency is the percentage of useful energy/work that is produced from the energy inputed
What is the equation for efficiency?
efficiency(%) = (useful output energy) / (total input energy) x 100
