State
An area of land of an independent country with well defined boundaries within which there is a body of people under a single government. (Basically a country)
Nation
A large group of people with strong bonds of identity. May be confined to one state (country) or across adjoining states/countries
Sovereignty
The absolute authority over the government of the land and people in their territories.
External sovereignty
The ability of a country to conduct its own foreign affairs and make decisions about its relationships with other countries
Norms
Moral principles, customs and ways of living that are universally accepted as standard behaviour and are part of international law
Territorial integrity
States exercise their sovereignty within a specific territory which has boundaries established by international law.
Internal sovereignty
The power that a government has within its own territory and the ability to exercise control over its citizens.
Interventions
Actions of international organisations in resolving conflicts, humanitarian crises or if international laws are broken

England, Wales, Scotland, N. Ireland =Nations
regional trading blocs
Groups of countries that have formed a regional economic alliance in order to promote trade and economic cooperation within the region.
Annexation
Possession taken of a piece of land or a country, usually by force or without permission. (e.g. Russia’s annexation of Crimea.)
