A 20-30 nm diameter picornavirus that can survive for a considerable period in the
poultry house.
AE virus are enterotropic and are spread in feces
How is avain encephalomyelitis transmitted
Fecal-oral
When do clinical signs appear in birds infected with avian encephalomyelitis
clinical signs appear when chicks are 1-2 weeks of age
Clinical signs associated with avian encephalomyelitis
signs of dullness followed by ataxia
Fine trembles
Eventually, the chicks are incapable of moving and die from trampling, starvation and dehydration.
When do you vaccinate for avian encephalomyelitis
Breeder flocks should be vaccinated at least 4 weeks before onset of egg production
What is the helminth parasite that carries Histomonas meleagridis, the protozoan that causes blackhead in
turkeys?
Heterakis gallinarum
