Much more anti-Communist and was very suspicious of Stalin.

Preparations for a Soviet take-over of the rest of Europe.

What had happened between Yalta and Potsdam?
A
- Stalin’s Red Army controlled Berlin and most of Eastern Europe.
- Stalin arrested non-Communist leaders in Poland in March. He set up a Communist government against the wishes of Poles and what he had promised at Yalta.
- Truman replaced FDR.
- A-bomb successfully tested by the Allies.

How did Stalin defend his action?
A
- By saying that his control of eastern European was a defensive measure against possible future attacks.
- With governments more sympathetic with the Soviet government, it is less likely that USSR will be invaded through Eastern European countries.

What were agreed at Potsdam?
A
- Four zones of Allies occupations confirmed.
- Demilitarization of Germany.
- Denazification: Repeal all discriminatory laws from the Nazi era and prosecute Nazi war criminals.
- Democralization.
- Decentralization: All German military and paramilitary forces wre to be eliminated.
- The production off all military hardware in Germany was forbidden.

What were the disagreements at Potsdam?
A
- Germany: Stalin wanted to cripple Germany completely but Truman did not want to repeat the mistake of the Treaty of Versailles.
- Stalin wanted too much compensation but Stalin didn’t want to repeat the mistake of Treaty of Versailles.
- Disagreed over Soviet Policy in Eastern European.
