Potential difference and Resistance Flashcards
What is the importance of potential difference and resistance?
The current through any component depends on both the potential difference across the component and the resistance of the component.
What is the definition of potential difference?
The energy transferred to the component or work done on it by each coulomb of charge that passes through it. The unit of potential difference is (V)
What is the formula for potential difference?
Potential difference (V) = Energy transferred (E (Joules)) divided by charge flow (coulombs(C))
What is the definition of resistance?
As electrons move through a component they must push their way through lots of vibrating atoms. The atoms resists the flow of electrons. This is the resistance of the component.
What the formula for resistance?
Resistance = Voltage divide by Amperes
What components do we need to measure the resistance of a circuit?
- The ammeter that is connected in series with the bulb.
- The voltmeter which is connected in parallel with the bulb.
