Posture Flashcards
Visual Scan Checklist
head centered level shoulder line iliac crests level spinal curves maintained thorax over pelvis over feet feet hip width apart equal weight bearing
when the line of gravity runs through the joint axis there is?
equilibrium
where does the LOG fall in the foot and ankle? what kind of moment does it create? what creates stability?
anterior to lateral malleolus
dorsiflexion moment created
plantar flexors
where does the LOG fall in the knee? what kind of moment is created? what creates stability
anterior to joint axis
extension moment created
acl, posterior capsule, gastrocs & hamstrings, soleus
where does the LOG fall in the hip? what kind of moment is created? what is it stabilized by?
posterior to axis extension moment iliofemoral ligament iliopsoas hip extensors
where does the LOG fall in the T-spine
anterior
flexion moment created
stabilized by posterior ligaments
where is the moment greatest at each curve
apex of each curve
C4/5, T6, L3
where does the LOG fall in the head? what kind of moment is created? what stabilizes it?
ligamentum nuchae
tectorial membrane
posterior cervical muscles
define postural fault
what does it result in
posture that deviates from normal alignment but does not create structural limitations
-increased energy expenditure & abnormal stresses on supporting structures
define postural pain syndrome
pain that occurs from mechanical stress when a person maintains a faulty posture for a prolonged period
define postural dysfunction
adaptive shortening of soft tissues and muscle weakness that develops due to prolonged poor postural habits & postures assumed following trauma or surgery structural factors
what do we see in posture in infants and children
centre of gravity higher T12
BOS wider
lumbar lordosis
genu varus at 1-3 then genu valgus to age 6
pes planus because arches do not form until 6-7
