Posture Flashcards
Define posture and what are the 2 types.
Posture is the position of the body either when stationary (static) or moving (dynamic).
Why is it called a reference posture rather than an ideal posture?
There is no ideal posture. People are different and do different things and will therefore adopt different postures, but we need a posture upon which to compare others to describe what we see.
What is the core principal behind the reference posture? Why is it what it is?
It is the posture that generally requires the least muscular work or passive support to maintain. The COG is over the BOS and net torque is minimized.
Visual scan of posture check list
Head is centered
mastoid process level
shoulder level
iliac crest level
spinal curves maintained
thorax over pelvis over feet
feet hip width
symmetrical weight bearing
Line of gravity in reference posture
External auditory meatus
shoulder joint
bodies of cerv and lumbar vertebrae
greater trochanter
ant to knee axis
ant to ankle axis
Is the reference posture energy neutral?
No. it creates torques at individual joints unless it passes directly through the axis of rotation
