Posterior Pelvis Flashcards
Gluteus Maximus origin and insertion
Origin- Coccyx, edge of sacrum, posterior iliac crest, sacrotuberous and sacroiliac ligaments
Insertion- Iliotibial tract (upper fibers) and gluteal tuberosity (lower fibers)
Gluteus Maximus Action
All fibers: extend, laterally rotate, and abduct the hip
Lower fibers: adduct the hip
Gluteus Medius origin and insertion
Origin- Gluteal surface of ilium, between posterior and anterior Gluteal lines, just below iliac crest
Insertion- Lateral aspect of greater trochanter
Gluteus Medius Action
All fibers: abduct the hip
Anterior Fibers: flex and medically rotate the hip
Posterior Fibers: extend and laterally rotate the hip
Gluteus Minimus origin and insertion
Origin- Gluteal Surface of the ilium between the anterior and inferior gluteal lines
Insertion- Anterior aspect of greater trochanter
Gluteus Minimus Action
Abduct , medically rotate and flex the hip
Piriformis origin and insertion
Origin- Anterior surface of sacrum
Insertion- Superior aspect of greater trochanter
Piriformis Action
Laterally rotate the hip; abduct the hip when the hip is flexed
Obturator Internus origin and insertion
Origin- Obturator membrane and inferior surface of obturator foramen
Insertion- medial surface of greater trochanter
Obturator Internus Action
Laterally rotate the hip
Obturator Externus origin and insertion
Origin- Rami of pubis and ischium, obturator membrane
Insertion- Trochanteric fossa of femur
Obturator externus Action
Laterally rotate the hip
Superior Gemellus origin and insertion
Origin- Ischial Spine
Insertion- Medial surface of greater trochanter
Superior Gemellus Action
Laterally rotate the hip
Inferior Gemellus Origin and insertion
Origin- ischial tuberosity
Insertion- Medial surface of greater trochanter
