what is the post telegraphic stage
this is a stage where a child’s life has changed so much such as nursery and more collaboration play.
therefore stepping into adult stage of spoken English.
this stage is important in teaching a child how to maintain conversations such as politeness strategies and unspoken expectations through their own identity and graces maximimes understanding abstract concepts.
what will children start to learn in this stage
- greater pragmatic awarness, turn taking and more frequent interagatives.
- discourse awareness and use of topic management (direction of conversation)
- adhering to prices maxims
-concept of time, class, socialisation, region of identity, and the their known self . back channeling and adjacency pairs
theorists- Halliday- imaginitive function
halliday identified 7 functions of early language one including imaginative
-helping the child grow accustomed to their environment- language used creatively to tell stories, write poetry, play games and inhabit an imaginary world.
vygotsky- collaborative play
children learn by interaction with a MKO (more knowledgeable other) who can provide them with intellectual scaffold.
- he believed internal mediators were crucial for example inner speech, imagination and pretend play.
discourse in post telograhic stage
a Childs earliest speech will be entirely egocentric and will ignore the other speakers.
-turn taking and adjacency pairs can be learned before a child starts speaking through games such as peekaboo.
