Neuro dysfunction, reparatory insufficiency, petechiae
Hypotension, JVD, tachycardia–>right side down, head up
Fat/Air embolism
Fatigue, tachy, palpitations, tachypnea, smooth tongue, brittle nails
Anemia
- Deep seated infection involving hair follicle and adjacent SubQ Tissue
- Staph auerus
- Pain, swelling. Most common at hairy sites with exposure to irritation, friction, pressure or moisture
- I&D
Furuncle
Brawny red/reddish borne edematous skin. Fever
Strep or staph
PCN or 1st Gen Cephalosporin
Celluitis
- Purulent infection of skeletal muscle arising from hematogenous spread
- Staph Auerus
- Fever, pain w/ cramping localized to single muscle group
- Abx
Pyomyositis
Muslce infx developing from area of trauma or hematogenously
- Clostridium perfringens
- Rapidly progressing necrosis, shock, hypotension, tense, tender skin
- Debridement, Abx, HBO
Gas Gangrene
- Non-clostridial bacterial pathogens
- Rapid spread along fascial planes. Hemorrhagic bullae, fever, shock, renal dysfunction
Nec Fasc.
Painful, tender, fluctuant, erythematous nodules
-Staph aureus
Abscess
Drainage pathway from deep focus of infection (abscesses) to skin opening
-Non healing abscess with chronic purulent drainage.
Fistulus and sinus tracts
Gram (-)
Fever, tachypnea, increased secretions, consolidation
Pneumonia
