Argue the world view is outdated and that we live in a saturated global village, where we define our self by what we buy
‘Fake news’
Technological changes means that our world has been compressed
Can have access to many different views and opinions - don’t know the truth anymore
Man-made or natural disasters
Threats in our life are more likely to be man-made rather than natural disasters
‘weightless electronic economy’
We no longer carry physical money in our pockets anymore - its more of a concept
Many of the products we buy are also weightless, e.g. download music and films
Trans-national businesses
They no longer belong to one state, which means the government can not control them
‘Global village’
There are no longer boundaries between cultures and identities
E.g. you can find a MacDonald’s in every city of the world
What is happening to the ideas about identity
They are disappearing - people don't know who they are anymore E.g. people usually identify themselves as 'working class' for job that were traditionally middle class occupations
Lyotard
Society is changing so much that it can no longer be understood through meta-narratives (e.g. Marxism)
There are so many different groups and lifestyles that society is now chaotic
Lost faith in science and rational thought - it causes as many problems as it solves
Baudrillard
Saturated media imagery has distorted the way we see the world
