- Tell me a little about yourself.
I am Jiro Aiben Pinque. I am a certified public accountant and have worked for Starlight Corporation as an accountant for 3 years. Before working in a private firm, I worked as a bank teller for a year at BDO and took an internship at Reyes & Co. accounting firm. Over the past few years, I have handled clients who are ill-tempered and people who require immediate services in handling financial transactions. These experiences taught me how to become resilient and adaptable in every situation. Currently, I am an accountant in a small firm where I offer my services to small and medium-sized enterprises. Moving forward, my experiences in the accounting field have trained me to be more patient and meticulous in handling information, which I believe is the essential factor needed to accomplish this role. This brings me here to this wonderful opportunity to become one of the possible newest members of your company.
- How far have known about our company?
Hera Industries is one of the biggest accounting firms in the nation, and one of the company’s missions is to provide excellent and quality services to companies in the Philippines. - What is your biggest weakness? How did you overcome it?
“In the past, I have found it difficult to work with aggressive personality types. While I understand diversity in personalities makes a business strong, I tend to quiet my own ideas and opinions around louder colleagues. To combat this, I have made it a point to spend more time with colleagues I feel uncomfortable working with. By learning more about them, their communication style and motivations, I am better able to collaborate with these personality types so that we both equally contribute our strengths and skills.”
- What is your biggest strength?
My Biggest strength would be integrity and resilience. Working in the accounting field, I never accepted bribes or any forms of kickbacks from my clients just to make their financial statements look attractive to investors. I am a strong advocate of work ethics, and being an accountant, it requires me to be impartial to everyone. Also, in the course of my career I developed resiliency in handling several clients where I try to accommodate everyone as much as possible.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In 5 years, I see myself in a respectable position and I will make sure that the company don’t want to lose me. I see myself as becoming more skilled, more efficient and professional. I want to devote the next few years learning new skills taking up challenging work and putting my hardwork to see myself advancing to the next level.
Out of all the other candidates, why should we hire you?
There are 2 skills that I have which I can contribute to the company. These are integrity and resilience. How did you learn about the opening?
I saw an advertisement in a local newspaper that your company is looking for an accountant. The qualities and requirements posted match with the qualities and credentials I have which led me in this wonderful opportunity right now.
Why do you want this job?
I want this job because i see this job as an opportunity for me to further develop myself to become a more distinguished and professional accountant. Being in this position would utilize the knowledge and skills i have which i could use to fulfill the goals and mission of the company.
What do you consider to be your biggest professional achievement?
My biggest professional achievement was completing all the required financial statements ahead of the given deadline during tax season. Every tax season, many clients from different companies or enterprises want their financial statements be attested by an independent auditor. Finishing ahead of the given deadline through effectively communicating our parts and responsibilities helped our team focus on different aspects and enjoy other recreational activities with other people.
Tell me about the last time a co-worker or customer got angry with you. What happened?
There was a time where my Co-worker took too long to submit the organized client information to the point that our department will be held accountable if the financial information is delayed by a day or so. I confronted my co-worker about not being punctual but he got angry and said unnecessary words to me. I explained to him in a calm manner about the consequences of his actions and tried to understand why he took to long to organize the client information. After coversation, we have our mutual understanding and he tried to make amends to our team. The day after he tried to be better and more responsible person for the sake of our team.
. Describe your dream job.
My dream job is to become a chief financial officer, where I get to fulfill my company’s goals and mission with my skills and knowledge in accounting and financial information. My passion is to manage the company’s financial activities and lead them down the right path. Being a CFO means I can help lead the company into prosperity through the use of my expertise, and I can delegate my subordinates to activities where they can excel and grow themselves. Seeing a flourishing workforce that is united helps achieve growth in the company.
. What kind of work environment do you like best?
The kind of work environment I enjoy the best is when all the members of the team have a strong sense of camaraderie and good work ethic. I like working with competent, kind, and funny people who likes to get things done. Being in this kind of work environment will help achieve unity with people resulting to increase in productivity and coordination with others.
Why should not we hire you?
Well, you shouldn’t hire me if you are looking for someone who blindly follows each rule in the company. Whenever i see irregularities I always try to fix it. I never hesitate to provide constructive criticism on the work of anyone and Of course, I also embrace such a criticism. I always strive to improve in everything I do, Thats all thank you.
Why do you want to leave your current job?
Working as an accountant in a small firm, I believe I progressed as far as I can in my current role. Now I am ready to take more responsibility and a change in environment would help me be improve myself and be motivated for the new challenges I will receive in the future. The opportunities of working in a prestigious company are limitless and I believe I can further develop myself working in your company.
Tell me about the toughest decision you had to make in the last six months.
The toughest decision I made recently was to take a promotion on my hometown or pursuing career with greater opportunities and potential. This took a lot of time to think about it because I don’t want to be separated from my family but at the same time I want to see myself grow in this field. So, Weighting the options, I chose the greater opportunities because I want to see myself develop and be more knowledgeable in the field of im working. Also the vast opportunities waiting for me will help me prosper into a more professional accountant.
What is your leadership style?
I would characterize my leadership style as highly democratic. I always try to empower people, and make them participate on the decisions we make in the department, I always try to delegate tasks to whoever is best-equipped to perform well in the task, and I try to communicate clearly about what needs to be done, and why.
Tell me about a time you disagreed with a decision. What did you do?
There was a time where I disagreed with the decision of my superior about the deadline of the audited financial statements. That date there are so many work needed to be done and we as a team have finished scheduling the task needed to be finished. So I respectfully expressed the sentiments of our department, made sure to know his side of the story. After thoughtful deliberation, he agreed with the decision of our team and made sure to create a quality and precise audited financial statement.
Tell me how you think other people would describe you.
Other people would describe me as someone who takes initiative, determined, and detail-oriented. I am someone who takes initiative, especially when people are indecisive, and I’m the one who creates suggestions or plans to everyone. people also see me as someone that once he sets his goals, he will do anything to finish it on a given time, he is determined to accomplish all his plans in life. Lastly people see me as someone who pays close attention to details, given by my profession I always try to look into smaller details because it could be an important information to people.
. Do you consider yourself as a professional? In what way?
I consider myself a professional in this field because of my credentials, my license to practice public accounting profession, and the traits and characteristics that people see mostly in professionals. I have strong work ethic and I am competent, reliable, and respectful.
How long would you expect to work for us if hired?
Up to the point where you no longer needed my services. I am dedicated to work hard, fulfill the goals and the mission of the company, and I want to be here see the company flourish into greater heights.
