positon and motion w speed --- sem 1 Flashcards
god help us
what’s the base unit of substance amount and electric current
mole and ampere
whats a reference location?
The starting point for describing a location
what’s a reference direction?
Used in 2d maps, often having the symbol of (+)
What’s the difference between displacement and distance
displacement is the difference between initial and current position.
distance is the amount of length traveled from point a to b
what is speed
the amount of distance traveled per unit of time.
define constant speed
when the same amount of distance is covered every second.
what’s velocity?
speed with direction
how to calculate speed in distance time graphs
write the highest points (T,D)
write the second points bellow (T,D)
Calculate time (T-T)
calculate distance (D-D)
use the speed formula - distance/time
what is inside an atom?
a nucleus composed of protons and neutrons with electrons circling from the outside
whats an atomic number?
the number of protons in an atom
What are isotopes, give an example
Isotopes are atoms of the same element that have a different amount of neutrons.
An example of isotopes are carbon atoms with seven neutrons.
What’s an ion?
An ion is an atom that used to have a neutral charge but gained or lost electrons. therefore no longer having a neutral charge.
whats an average atomic mass and what’s a mass number?
average atomic mass is the average mass of an atoms isotopes.
mass number is the atoms neutrons and protons combined.
are compounds chemically bonded
yeah
Whats the difference between compounds and mixture
the elements making compounds are chemically bonded, the elements and substances making up mixtures are still present, therefore its only a physical change.
the substances in mixtures still have their properties and can be separated
