What is the most common complication of immobility and how can it be prevented?
Pressure Ulcers and bed sores can be prevented by repositioning or turning patients once every 2 hours.
What causes shearing and friction?
Caused from pulling people across the sheet, causes sheering and damage in layers of tissue.
-it can be reduced by lifting or rolling the patient and not pulling or dragging
What should be checked after positioning a person?
proper body alignment
Why would we logroll a patient
Logrolling is used for someone who has had a back surgery or injury to neck or spine
What would the position Lithotomy be used for?
The Lithotomy position would be used for Delivering babies or for a pelvic exam
When ambulating a patient, what are vital steps?
Lock and lower the bed, dangle the feet off the bed to prevent passing out.
When ambulating with a wheelchair, what are important steps
Have the person scoot back in the chair to avoid sliding
When ambulating with a cane, what side should you stand on?
Stand on the strong side
What is the main cause of injury?
FALLS
What reasons would there be to use restraints?
-If the patient is trying to remove medical devices, if they are a danger to others or themselves.
-Restraints come from a doctor’s order!
