Basically serves as an interface between the computer and other computers or peripheral devices.
Port
Generally refers to the female part of connection. It has many uses, to connect a monitor, webcam, speakers, or other peripheral devices.

Transmits digital video and audio. This replaces VGA and DVI ports nowadays.

Transmits both video and data on the same port and cable. Similar to a DisplayPort, it is compatible with the devices with the DisplayPort
Thunderbolt
Usually has three ports, for a microphone, audio in/audio out, and stereo audio out.
