Ports Flashcards
What is port 21?
FTP (File transfer protocol)
What is port 80?
Http (Hyper Text transfer protocol) (HTTP, short for Hypertext Transfer Protocol, is the foundation of communication on the World Wide Web. It’s a protocol that allows web browsers to request and receive information (like HTML pages, images, etc.) from web servers. )
What is port 443?
HTTPS (HTTPS, short for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure, is a secure version of the standard HTTP protocol used for transferring data over the internet. It uses encryption to protect the data exchanged between a website and a user, ensuring that sensitive information like login credentials and credit card details are not intercepted by third parties. )
What is port 554?
RTSP (RTSP stands for Real-Time Streaming Protocol. It’s a network control protocol used for controlling streaming media servers, establishing and controlling media sessions between endpoints. Think of it as a network remote control for media streams, allowing users to play, pause, record, or otherwise manipulate a stream from a client device. )
Control, Not Streaming:
RTSP itself doesn’t transmit the actual audio or video data. It communicates with the server that’s actually streaming the media, relaying commands like “play,” “pause,” or “record” from the client.
Common Applications:
RTSP is widely used in applications like IP cameras, video surveillance, and other systems where controlling the stream is important.
What is port 1723?
PPTP.
(stands for Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol, a network protocol used to create secure virtual private networks (VPNs). It establishes an encrypted tunnel between a client device and a server, allowing users to access a private network as if they were directly connected. While PPTP was widely used in the past, it’s considered outdated and less secure due to its weak encryption and authentication methods.)
(PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol) is a network protocol used to establish a secure VPN connection over the internet. Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol facilitates the private transfer of data from a remote client to a server by encapsulating packets at a TCP/IP level.)
