The rain set early in to-night,
Angelic P
When glided in Porphyria;
Water flowing
untied // Her hat and let the damp hair fall,
Lastly…
And, last, she sat down by my side
P in control…
She put my arm about her waist,

And give herself to me for ever.
Desire brought her here…
But passion sometimes would prevail, // Nor could to-night’s gay feast restrain
P’s worship…
at last I knew // Porphyria worshipped me;

While I debated what to do.
Change in descriptions…
That moment she was mine, mine, fair, // Perfectly pure and good:
Death…
and all her hair // In one long yellow string I wound // Three times her little throat around, // And strangled her.
Reassurance…
No pain felt she; // I am quite sure she felt no pain.
Speaker in control…
Only, this time my shoulder bore // Her head,

Her darling one wish would be heard.
