1
Q

What are the aims of population ecology?

A

To understand and predict dynamics of populations.

To use models to design conservation action and management strategies.

Q

How do births relate to population dynamics?

A

Clutch size and fledgling success: very variable between species, is variable within species, dependent on age, experience and body condition. e.g. female sparrowhaws tend to have more young as they increase in age up to a point, then less with age.
Number of breeding attempts: birds are seasonal breeders, dependent on latitude - in south may have more broods. Dependent on habitat sturcture.

Q

How do immigration and emigration relate to populaiton dynamics?
