The countries with the highest poverty eg Nigeria and India
When do we see a decrease in birthrates?
We see a decrease in birth rates when the education and income levels rise
How much does it costs to raise a child now?
Figures suggest it costs over €100,00 to raise a child from birth to college years making them an economic responsibility E.g Ireland
What do we know about developed countries economy’s in the last 200 years?
Their economy’s grew with the populations making it harder for them to provide for the current population growth needs.
What did the Industrial Revolution do for population?
The Industrial Revolution made it possible to provide for the population at the time, it could now be expanded to be more profitable with growing population.
Why did city populations grow and what was the effect?
City populations grew when former farmers began to move to the cities looking for factory work. Economy’s began to depend on secondary economic activities rather than primary economic activities.
What was coal used for and where did we get it from?
Coal was used to power cities and raw materials began to be imported from cheaper countries E.g sugar from Africa
What relation do taxes and population have in common?
With rising populations there was more people paying tax, income tax and VAT were invested into healthcare and education.
What is the DTM and where are Ireland on it?
Ireland are at stage 4 of the Demographic Transition Model and are approaching stage 5. Ireland have a small population growth, aging population and high GDP
Where are less developed countries on the DTM?
Countries like Bangladesh are passing through stages 2 and 3, experiencing high population growths. This hinders development by creating problems
Why are larger families desired in poorer countries?
Larger families are desired as due to low income if there are multiple children working from a young age they can contribute to bills and care for parents when older
What will the world population be by 2050? What does this mean for less developed countries?
The planet population is expected to rise by 3 billion by 2050, this will make it harder for poorer countries to invest in things like education and healthcare.
What will more educated people in poorer countries do?
More educated people in poorer countries will leave to find more opportunities in a more developed county this is called brain drain
