- no birth control, children needed to work, high infant mortality so women have more children in hope some will survive.
High fluctuating death rate (35 per 1,000)
- poor hygiene and medicine, famine, disease
Stage 2
High birth rate still (35 per 1,000)
Decreased death rate (20 per 1,000)
-improved medical care, improved sanitation, improved food and water supply, decrease in infant mortality
Stage 3
Decreasing birth rate (16 per 1,000)
- contraception, lower infant mortality, increased industrialisation so fewer workers needed, less desire for large families
Death rate continues to fall (12 per 1,000)
Stage 4
Birth rate remains low (12-16 per 1,000)
Death rate remains low (10-12 per 1,000)
Stage 5
Birth and Death rate low and fluctuating
