What are sparsely and heavily populated areas and how are they measured?
Sparsely - not many people living there
Heavily - Densely populated - lots of people living there
measured in Square metres e.g. 3 people per Sq M
What was the China one child policy?
It was a rule placed down by Chinese government to only allow 1 child per family!
What caused the China 1 child policy?
Population growth unsustainable. Predicted food, water and resource shortages.
What were the impacts of the China 1 child policy?
60 Million more men than women in China
Prevented 400 Million births
What were the rewards for obeying the China 1 child policy?
Free education for your child.
Housing and family benefits BUT only if you had 1 child
What were the consequences for not following the China 1 child policy?
Parents who had a second child would lose 10% of pay
People were forced to have an abortion
Work colleagues would suffer a pay cut
Is the China 1 child policy still in effect?
No, in 2013 it was relaxed
Now you can have 2 children
You are not penalised for having twins
Only strictly enforced in densely populated areas
What has happened to the UK population since 1985?
We have an increased ageing population i.e. the number of older people is larger than the younger population
