A

First person narration. There is no regular rhythm or rhyme showing it is rather the mothers thoughts of the moment.

Enjambement and caesura
- show the mother is consumed within her thoughts.

Structure
-the poem is seen to be in chronological order but it is ambiguous as the childhood memories are intertwined with him leaving.
“Your playground voice catching on the wind”
-links leaving school to leaving for the army.

Use of the senses

A

The mothers separation is emphasised by the fact she can’t feel or hear him
“Hoping to hear”
“I wanted to graze my nose across the tip of your nose”

“Like a wishbone”
-she wishes for his safety
