Culture

Nonmaterial Culture
refers to the nonphysical ideas that people have about their

Custom
a traditional and widely accepted way of behaving or doing something
that is specific to a particular society, place, or time
Taboo
a behavior heavily discouraged by a culture, often with extreme
punishments, including religious prohibitions and death
Ethnic Enclaves
a geographic area with high ethnic concentration, characteristic
cultural identity, and economic activity
Ethnicity
affiliation or identity within a group of people bound by common
ancestry and culture
Language Family
languages related through descent from a common ancestral
language or parental language
Dialect
a particular form of a language, which is peculiar to a specific region or
social group {I.e. a Regional language (Southern English, AAVE, etc.)}
Endangered Languages
languages in the world that are in the final generation of
speakers, close to becoming extinct
Extinct Languages
a language that no longer has any speakers, especially if the
language has no living descendants
Universalizing Religion
religions that attempt to be global, to appeal to all people,
wherever they may live in the world, not just to those of one culture or location
(e.g. Christianity, Buddhism, Islam)
Ethnic Religion
religion(s) that appeal primarily to one group (typically a
particular race or ethnicity) of people living in one place (e.g. Judaism)
