P.o.M.a.S - 2 Flashcards
What happens to stiffness and flexibility when length increases?
stiffness decreases
flexibility increases
What equation is used to describe viscous behaviour?
n (coefficient of viscosity) = stress/strain rate
How is strain rate calculated?
change in strain divided by change in time
how does viscous behaviour differ from elastic behaviour?
in viscous behaviour, a material does not deform instantly, and doesn’t return to its original shape
What is viscoelastic behaviour?
a material doesn’t deform instantly, but when the load is removed it does return to its original shape over time
What is creep?
the phenomenon of developing strain over time - under a constant loading some materials will continue to lengthen over time
What is stress relaxation?
under constant loading, the stress required to deform a material to a certain degree will decrease with time
