  • Treatment of ED in adult men (aged 18 years and over)

- 1x50mg tablet ONE HOUR before sexual activity

Sildenafil contraindications

A
  • Co-administration with guanylate cyclase stimulators (e.g. riociguat)
  • Co-administration with ritonavir
  • Co-administration with nitrates such as nicroandil
  • Within 6 months of MI, or stroke, unstable angina or severe cardiac failure
  • Severe hepatic impairment
  • Hypotension
  • Known hereditary degenerative retinal disorders such as retinitis pigmentosa
  • Loss of vision in one eye because of non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION)
  • Anatomical deformation of the penis
  • Women
  • Men under the age of 18 years

Referral points for sildenafil

A
  • administration with CYP450 enzymes
  • Co-administration with alpha blocker treatment (e.g. doxazosin or tamsulosin)
  • Severe renal impairment
  • Mild to moderate hepatic impairment
  • History of bleeding disorders or active peptic ulceration
  • Patients who have conditions which will predispose them to Priapism (e.g. sickle cell anaemia, multiple myeloma or leukaemia)
