Polynomials rules Flashcards
What is the degree?
The degree is the highest exponent in the problem
What is the leading coefficient?
It is the coefficient that has the largest exponent.
If the degree is odd and the leading coefficient is positive…
The left end will go down and the right end will go up.
If the degree is odd and the coefficient is negative…
The left side will go up and the right side will go down.
If the degrees are all even and the coefficients are all positive…
The left and right ends of the graph will go up.
If the degrees are all positive and the coefficients are all negative…
The left and right ends will both go down
What is a factor?
A factor is the number of coefficients within the parenthesis For example x (x+7) (x-3) there are three factors in this example.
How do you know the number of turns in each problem?
The number of turns will be one less than the degree.
