Polygons Flashcards
What is a regular polygon?
A polygon in which all sides are equal in length and all interior angles are equal
What do you call a polygon which has unequal sides and in which the interior angles are different?
An irregular polygon
In polygon formulae, what does n mean?
n represents the number of sides
What is the formula for finding the sum of the interior angles of a polygon?
180° (n-2)
What is the formula for finding the size of the interior angles of a REGULAR polygon?
180° (n-2) divided by n
If you construct five lines running from each corner to the centre of a regular pentagon, what are the properties of the triangles created?
They are congruent isosceles triangles
The base angles are 54°
The other angles around the midpoint equal 72°
If you construct six lines running from each corner to the centre of a regular hexagon, what are the properties of the triangles created?
They will be congruent
They are all equilateral
If you construct eight lines running from each corner to the centre of a regular octagon, what are the properties of the triangles created?
Congruent and isosceles
Base angles all equal 67,5
Angles around the midpoint all equal 45°
