What is Matter
A substance that has mass and occupies space
What is Mass
The amount of matter in a substance (objects)
What is Volume
The amount of space an object takes up
What is a Physical change
A change to a sample of matter in which some properties of the material change, but the identity of the matter does not.
What is a Solid
A state of matter that retains its shape and density (degree of compactness).
What is a Liquid
A state of matter that conforms to the shape of a container in which it is held.
What is a Gas
A state of matter that has no fixed shape and no fixed volume.
What is a Chemical change
Occurs whenever matter changes into an entirely different substance with different chemical properties.
What is a Element
a pure substance made of only 1 type of atom that can not be broken down further into other substances.
What is an Atom
the smallest building blocks of matter.
What is an Electron
A negative subatomic particle that is located outside the nucleus that makes up the atom.
What is a Proton
A positive subatomic particle that is located in the nucleus that makes up the atom.
What is a Neutron
a neutral (no electric charge) subatomic particle that is found in the nucleus (center of the atom) that makes up the atom.
What is Atomic number
he number of protons in the nucleus of an atom, which determines the chemical properties of an element and its place in the periodic table.
What is Atomic mass
Together, the number of protons and the number of neutrons determine an element’s mass number: mass number = protons + neutrons.
