pollination Flashcards
what fertilise the ovule
pollen grains
what are the two types of pollination
cross- two different plants
self- male+ female parts of the same plant
what is pollination
pollen from the anther transfers to the stigma to fertilise it
what is wind pollination
pollen from a flower gets blown away and lands on the stigma of another plant
what is insect pollination
after insects get stuck on a flower they pick up some pollen which gets carried by the insect to another flower’s stigma
properties of insect pollinated plants-
-colourful petals
-contain sweet nectar
-produce small quantities of sticky pollen
-have anther+stigma held firmly inside the flower to brush insects
properties of wind pollinated plants
-small dull petals
-dont produce nectar
-produce large amounts of light pollen
-loosely attached anther+stigma to release and catch pollen
