Q

what are the two ways pollen can be transferred to the stigma

A

by wind : pollen from flower of one plant blown by wind and could land on stigma of another plants flower
by insects : when insects visit flower the pollen gets stuck to them and when they move to another flower pollen from the first flower rubs off onto the stigma of the next flower

Q

what are wind pollinated plants like

A
  • have small dull green/brown petals
  • don’t produce nectar
  • produce large amount of very light pollen easily carried by wind
  • loosely attached anthers and stigmas which dangle out of flower making it easier for plant to release pollen and catch pollen from other plants
