Political Thinking Concepts, Stability and Change, Power and Privilege
Who is Political?
Everyone is.
Why do people have different political perspectives?
- Helps to explain why people and groups can hold different, even opposite, points of view about the same issue, event, person, or policy.
- It also helps explain how these views affect their actions.
Objectives and Results tells us?
Which actions will have the best results, a tool for understanding the reasons and results of actions; thus developing an understanding for the government and citizens to arrive to a change/ outcome.
What is “Political Significance?”
Identifies the importance of issues and their precedence when addressing them.
Therefore:
- Helps to understand why the government creates laws and policies.
- Also why citizens hold certain points of view or take action.
What is Stability and Change. Differences?
A political thinking concept that looks at how and why political institutions and government policies change, or remain the same, over time.
Change states undergoing altering/ making things different.
Stability states something remaining the same and consistent.
Advantages for Stability.
Important, political, societal, and economic institutions are smoothing functioning and intact, avoiding significant disruptions or changes over an extended duration.
Disadvantages for Stability.
New opportunities or injustices may not be divulged or addressed because such institutions are resistant to change or do not see fit to change.
Advantages for Change.
Problems regarding injustices or malpractices are resolved; conditions are improved and new opportunities are made available.
Disadvantages for Change.
Critical political, societal, and economical institutions might not work effectively from constant change and people become negatively affected.
What is Power and Privilege, a political thinking concept?
This identifies who has power (what type of power and how it is utilized) and privilege (if this is earned or not) so systems are not impacted when there is the injustice of bias and unfairness.
Define “Power”
Power is the ability to affect the behaviour of others to do something they might not otherwise do.
Define “Privilege”
Privilege is a special benefit or advantage available to different people or groups.
Define “Political Power”
Power that allows for the administration of public resources and implements policies for society.
There are different levels of political power: Municipal, provincial, federal.
Define “Social Power”
The degree of influence that an individual or organization has among their peers and society in general. Social power comes from having a large amount of skill, importance or fame.
- I.e. some people face a lot of importance on Instagram and having the perfect post and caption.
Define “Military Power”
The amount of military power a nation has.
The bigger the army, with more technology and weapons, the more “power” that country is seen to have.
