What is a Referendum?
An election referring to a specific decision to the electorate, boiling down to a Yes or No decision.
What is Accountability?
The process holding those in positions of power (elected or appointed) responsible for actions (or lack thereof).
What is Scrutiny?
The process in which those holding positions of responsibility are examed on the success of which they carry out their duties with.
What is Inclusivity?
The idea that all constituents of the population regardless of race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religious or political belief have equal access to the political system.
What is Representation?
Action or speech on behalf of a person, group, business house, state or the like by an agent or deputy.
What is Democratic Deficit?
The electorate are unable to experience the full benefits of political representation because of shortcomings in the electoral system or in the political structure.
What is Participation?
The act of taking part in a (typically) electoral process.
What is a Mandate?
A command or authorisation to act in a particular way on a public issue given by the electorate to their representative.
