What is a political party?
A voting group with a set of beliefs on how to run a country.
What is a Federal Government
The nation’s ultimate governing authority; shares power with state and local governments
Constitution
Document that holds the basic principles, laws, and organization of a government
Amendment
Formal change or addition to a constitution
Ratify
To approve or say yes to something, such as a law
Veto
To deny or say no to something, such as a law
Bicameral
Made up of two houses.
What is the Separation of Powers?
government separates government jobs into three branches.
What are Checks and Balances
Branches of government check each other to make sure no one branch is too powerful
What is federalism?
Power shared between federal and state government
What is Popular Sovereignty?
Gets it’s power from the citizens/people
What is Republicanism
Political theory where citizens can vote to represent government.
What is a limited government?
Only has the power that the constitution gives them as a government
What are Individual rights?
The constitution protects rights and protects the people from having it taken away
What is the leader of the Executive Branch?
Governor
