What did the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890 attempt to do?
to break up powerful monopolies
to limit the power of trust (break up monopolies) and protect actions and group that fought to hold back normal commerce and trade
Why did reformers criticize the spoils system?
Reformers opposed the spoils systems because it was inefficient and unfair. Jobs were given to the victors of certain political contests, regardless if they were qualified or not. Reformers wanted a Civil Service Program based on merit.
What was the purpose of Civil Service Exams?
to see how much knowledge you have about the job you’re applying for, to see if you qualify

to have an election in which voters chose candidates to appear on the ballot
What is the purpose of a recall?
it was to allow voters to remove incompetent elected officials

it gave voters the opportunity to accept or reject laws
How did Theodore Roosevelt view trusts?
Roosevelt was a government official who combats business alliances. He didn’t want to destroy all trusts but wanted to regulate them because some trusts are good and some are bad

it granted American women the right to vote

they are journalists (writers and photographers) who investigate and expose problems to the public
they publicized it and wrote about it such as lincoln steffens, exposing it and how is affected lives.
