What does Nasser convince the Egyptian army of?
A) Interference from a European colonial power was wrong.
B) That all vestiges of British rule/influence had to be removed from Egypt.
Name the reason as to why Nasser was so influential in the Egyptian Army.
Due to his stationing as an army instructor in the Egyptian Army Staff College, he had direct access to young officers who might be more prone to his views when compared to the older officers in the Egyptian army.
Why did Egypt’s defeat against Israel in 1948 give Nasser a new upper-hand against the British?
Due to Egypt’s heavy defeat, Nasser gained strength from the Egyptian people who were outraged at such a bad defeat when the British were meant to be helping them. A Supply Scandal came to light, which also incriminated Egypt’s royal family, which led to Nasser’s appeal against a new form of Government without a monarchy. He pushed the army to take a lead on this issue.
