Details of Plessy v Ferguson
Homer Plessy, a man of mixed race who identified as black, boarded a “whites-only” train car and refused to move to the designated “blacks-only” car. Plessy was arrested and charged with violating the state’s Separate Car Act, which mandated segregated railway facilities. Plessy’s legal team challenged the constitutionality of the law, arguing that it violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.
