What is active resistance?
When subject engages muscle groups to defeat an officer’s attempts to affect an arrest
What is deadly force?
Any physical force that can be reasonably expected or is likely to cause death or serious injury
What is force?
The application of physical techniques or tactics, chemical agents or weapons to another person.
What is imminent Jeopardy?
Immediate danger. Threatened or impending injury that would put a reasonable and prudent person to their instant defense.
What is objectively reasonable?
Appropriate level of force in light of known circumstances, including, but not limited to the seriousness of the crime, level of threat or resistance presented by the subject, and the danger to the community.
What is reasonable force?
Amount of force that an officer with the same or similar training and experience, facing the same or similar circumstances may have employed.
What is unnecessary force
Any amount of force that is used that does not fulfill a lawful objective or is needless or uncalled for.
What is unreasonable force?
Amount of force that with the same or similar training and experience, facing the same or similar circumstances would not have employed.
Reasons to use force
To protect themselves, to protect others, to affect a lawful detention, to conduct a lawful search, to prevent the destruction of property.
