What is penal populism?
Law introduces new crimes to see what is popular, is a good deterrent but leads to full prisons
Zero Tolerance Strengths
NYC crime rates fell by 39%, Hartlepool lost 38% in 28 months
Zero Tolerance weaknesses
NYC actually fell due to less drugs, displacement, police being heavyhanded
What are the two Left Realism policies?
Multi-agent working, restorative justice
What is multi-agency working and why is it good?
Tackling crime’s root, good as it introduced health care to prison and put all criminal records on national databases
Why is multi-agency working ineffective?
Agencies don’t utilise having all criminal records well, failure to act upon or share evidence
What is restorative justice and why is it good?
Victim and Criminal meet up if they both consent. Good as it helps reduce reoffending and lowered reinprisonment rates
