Candidates announce their candidacy about 1 and a half years ahead of time

Candidates form campaign committees to raise funds. Overseen by the FEC
Step 3
Candidates win delegates, who will represent at the party convention and vote to nominate the party’s candidate. Delegates can be won through primaries and caucuses
Step 4
The candidate selects his/her running mate.
Step 5
The convention. Party members adopt their platform. Party comes back together after a hard-fought primary/caucus season to prepare for the general election. Delegates officially nominate the party’s presidential candidate
Step 6
The campaign. the Democratic and Republican nominees face off in the months after the convention and before the general election. Give speeches, hold rallies, and debate
Step 7
The General election. Held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Citizens vote
Step 8
The Electoral college votes on Monday after the second Wednesday in December. Need 270 electoral college votes to win
Step 9
On January 6th the vice president counts the electoral college votes in the Senate
Step 10
On January 20th the president is inaugurated

A person who is certified to represent their state’s vote in the Electoral College
