Points, Lines, & Planes Flashcards
Point
A location with no size (⚫ A or Point A)
Space
A set of all points (⚫ ⚫ ⚫⚫)
Line
A series of points that extends in two opposite directions without end. Thickness: None - # of Endpoints: 0 (Arrow on two sides AB or m)
Plane
A flat surface with NO thickness that extends forever in all directions (Plane ABC - choose ANY 3 points or Plane R)
Segment
A part of a line consisting of two endpoints & all points between them. Thickness: None - # of Endpoints: 2
Ray
A part of a line that starts at an endpoint & continues forever in one direction. Thickness: None - # of Endpoints: 1
Opposite Rays
Two collinear rays with the same endpoint continuing forever in opposite directions. Form a line.
Collinear
Points that lie on that same line
Noncollinear
Points that do NOT lie on that same line
Coplanar
Points OR Lines that lie on the same plane
Non-coplanar
Points OR Lines that do NOT lie on the same plane
Postulate or Axiom
An accepted statement of fact
Postulate 1-1
Through any TWO points there is exactly one line
Postulate 1-2
If two lines intersect, then they intersect in exactly one point
Postulate 1-3
If two planes intersect, then they intersect in exactly one line
Postulate 1-4
Through any three noncollinear points there is exactly one plane
Theorem
A statement you prove is true
Quotient
Divide
Proportional Fraction
a fraction where the numerator is less than the
denominator.
