Point Categories Flashcards
Describe qi at Yuan Source Points
Where ORIGINAL QI surfaces and lingers
Where are Yuan source pts on Yin channels?
What do they do?
What transporting point are they?
3rd pt
Nourish and tonify
Same as stream point
Where are Yuan source pt on Yang channels?
What do they do?
4th pt
Clear excess heat
Expell pathogens
What are the functions of Xi-cleft pts?
What do they only treat on Yin channels?
What does qi do at this point?
Where are they located?
- Acute conditions and pain
- Yin channels - also bleeding, blood stasis
- “Where qi and blood accumulates and pluges more deeply into body”
- Cleft, crevice, hole (location)
What do Front Mu pts do?
What does qi do at this pt?
- Communicate direct to organs
- Located in close proximity to organs
- Tenderness on palpation
- located on Front of body (except KD mu point)
- Treat YANG conditions - (Acute, excess, heat)
“Alarm point”
Where qi of Zangfu gathers and concentrates on anterior surface of body
What do Back Shu Pts do?
What do they treat?
- Communicate direct to organs
- Located in close proximity to organs
- Tenderness on palpation
- Posterior body
- Chronic conditions
What are Luo connection pts?
What do they treat?
- On each primary channel where Luo-connecting channel diverges
- Balance ying/yang paired channels or zang fu
- Treat blood stasis, stop bleeding, move blood
- Treat mental/emotional issues (invigorate qi/blood)
- Treat pathologies along luo-connecting channel
Luo connection pts
On each primary channel where Luo-connecting channel diverges
Balance ying/yang paired channels or zang fu
Treat blood stasis, stop bleeding, move blood
Treat mental/emotional issues (invigorate qi/blood)
Treat pathologies along luo-connecting channel
What are Group Luo Pts?
Used when all 3 channels on yin or yang side of arm or leg are effected
What is the Host-Guest Method?
Treatment method that uses
- 1 yuan source pt
- 1 luo pt
For: Xu (Deficiency)
- TONIFY yuan source pt of affected channel and - DISPERSE/REDUCE luo pt of paired channel
For: Shi (excess)
- DISPERSE yuan source pt
- TONIFY luo pt
What are the 5 Transporting Points
Jing - Well Ying - Spring Shu - Stream Jing - River He - Sea
What are the 4 Sea Points?
4 “seas” in the human body
Strong effect on their related system
1 - Sea of food water and grain
2 - Sea of Qi
3 - Sea of Blood
4 - Sea of Marrow
Luo Connecting Channels
15 luo connecting channels
- 12 from primary ch
- 1 each from concepting and governing vessels
- Great luo connecting channel of the spleen
On 12 primary channels they spread from luo connecting pt to internally-externally paired channel
Strengthen connecting between internally-externally paired channels and zangfu
What are the Sinew channels?
How many
Depth
Originate
Travel to
12 sinew channels
Circulate on periphery of body
Do NOT penetrate to zangfu
All originate at extremeties and ascend to the head and trunk
Broadly follow the course of their associated primary channel but are wider
More superficial and follow lines of major muscles and muscle groups, tendons, ligaments
Can reflect disturbances of primary channels or be injured themselves by traumatic injury or external pathogens
There are no specific pts that treat sinew channels - can be treated by shallow needle insertions at Ahshi pts and superficial techniques like cupping, massage, plum blossom needling and guasha
What are Divergent Channels?
How many
Branch from?
Functions?
12 Divergent Channels
Branch out from primary channels and have no specific pts of their own
- Strengthen yin/yang relationship between internally-externally related channels and zangfu
- Distribute qi and blood to head and face
- Integrate areas of the body not supplied/interconnectes by primary channels
Their pathways make internal linkages that may not be made by the primary channels and explain the actions and indications of many pts
