The point at which Qi glides is known as the Ying Spring. The point at which Qi pours is known as the Shu Stream. The point at which Qi flows is known as the Jing River.
The point at which Qi enters inwards is known as the He Sea.”
Use of 5 shu points as per the Classic of Difficulties?
Jing-well: Fullness below the heart
Ying-spring: Heat in the body
Shu-stream: Heaviness of body and pain of joints
Jing-river: Cough and dyspnoea, chills and fever
He-sea: Counterflow Qi and diarrhoea
Clinical uses of Jing-well points?
4
Clear heat, clear channel blockages
Restore consciousness and restore collapse
Treat uppermost reaches of channel (esp acute)
Treat disorders of the spirit
Clinical uses of Ying-spring points?
Clear heat from zangfu and channel (esp upper portion)
On yin channel =fire; yang=water; both reduced clear heat
Clears disease of zang nd yang channels
Nourish Yin
When combined with Shu-stream points clear excess pathogenic factors, stagnation and heat from channels
Clinical uses of Jing-river points?
Cough and dyspnoea, chills and fever
Diseases manifesting in the voice
Diseases of sinews and bones (yin ch)
Clinical uses of Shu-stream points?
Heaviness of body and pain of joints
Diseases manifesting intermittently
Yin channels: tonify and harmonize respective zang (also source point)
Yang channels: strong effect on channels; little on fu
Clinical uses of He-sea points?
Diseases of Stomach and Intestines
Counterflow Qi and diarrhoea
Diseases resulting from irregular easting and drinking
Diseases of the fu organs (also lower he-sea)
Diseases of the skin
Where are Xi-cleft points located and what do they do?
“Where Qi and Blood gather and plunge more deeply”
Between wrist-elbow and ankle-knee
Indicated for acute conditions and pain
On yin channels - also for disorders of the blood
Where are Yuan-source points located and what do they do?
“Where original Qi (Yuan Qi) surfaces and lingers”
Yin channels:
3rd point from extremity; as shu-stream
Tonify and regulate respective zang organ
Yang channels:
4th point from extremity (GB=5th)
Dispel excess pathogenic factors and treat disorders along pathway of channel
What do luo connecting points do?
Strengthen relationship of int/ext related channels
Treat disorders of int/ext related channel or zangfu
Treat disorders in regions reached by luo connecting ch
Treat psycho-emotional disorders
What are the 3 extra luo connecting points?
REN15
DU1
SP21
What is the name of the method of combining yuan-source and luo-connecting points?
Host and guest combination
What do back shu points do?
Tonify and treat associated zangfu organ
Can be used in diagnosis by palpation
What do front mu points do?
Treat diseases of zangu; excess or deficient
Particularly important for ST / BL / Intestines
Can be used in diagnosis by palpation (tender etc)
What are the Hui meeting points? (8)
as per master points in equine acu
